A new model out of the Columbia Engineering School has generated an interactive map of the estimated energy use in every building in New York City. A significant undertaking with significant implications: over two-thirds of New York City’s energy consumption is in the building sector. A fine-grained picture of where this consumption takes place could offer a clearer path for progressive policy.
Of course, knowing is one thing. What gets done with all the knowing another thing entirely.
